During the summer months St. Matthew’s, in partnership with Food Share, offer a not for profit food market to our community. Fresh produce is sold at an affordable price in an effort to address food access, scarcity and affordability in our local community. Run entirely by parish and community volunteers, the market is a warm, inviting and hospitable place where people not only have access to healthy and affordable food but visit with their neighbours.

The main goals of the Good Food Market are to build community and to welcome our neighbours and the wider community to St. Matthew’s by offering fresh produce at good prices and to share hospitality. On the Hospitality table we invite visitors after making their purchases to stop and chat, and have a cold drink.

Since each market requires about 50 hours of volunteer time, we are extremely grateful to the dedicated volunteers who worked with us over the years. About half of the volunteers are from St. Matthew’s. The rest are from the Henry Farm neighbourhood and the wider community. Many of the volunteers have been with the Market since the first year!

Check out Google Street View and you’ll see the market from Sheppard Avenue.

Hosting a market is hard work, but good company and positive response made the tasks feel lighter.
