Baptism

From our very beginning, God has created us to be in relationship with Him and to join with Him in doing His work in the world. And your desire to receive the sacrament of baptism, or your desire for your child to receive the sacrament of baptism, is a sign that you have answered this call. For Christians, baptism in one of the most significant moments in our lives and declares our decision to live as faithful followers of Jesus. Or in the case of children, to make promises on their behalf to raise them in the life and faith of the Christian community so they will grow to be faithful followers of Jesus themselves.   Regardless of whatever age we are baptized, baptism marks a real turning point in our lives as we let go of the old life we have clung to, trusting that God will give us a new life by his Spirit.

Baptisms are held at different times throughout the year, mainly on special Sundays of celebration for the Church that are meant to add to the joyfulness of this occasion and the promises those who are committing themselves to Christ are making. These include:

The Baptism of Jesus (early January)
Easter (March/April)
Pentecost (late Spring)
All Saints Day (November)
